Van Dieman's inks pay tribute to the Australian island of Tasmania, where they are produced. The inks are handmade in small batches using a minimum of 95% Australian ingredients. Each series is inspired by Tasmanian fauna, flora, history or extraordinary landscapes.
Immerse yourself in the enchanting depths of the ocean with 'Bioluminescence,' a part of Van Dieman's Underwater collection. This ink captures the mesmerizing glow of bioluminescent algae that bloom in the waters around Tasmania, creating a spectacle of light in the darkness of the sea.
Bioluminescence is a rich, dark blue ink that appears almost black on most papers. It boasts a striking red sheen that outshines the base color on acid-free papers, coupled with a vibrant blue shimmer. The complex layers of saturation, under hue, sheen, and shimmer come together to mimic the appearance of bright blue sea glow against a dark, near-black ocean, reflecting the last red light of dusk.
This high saturation, dye-based shimmer ink is suitable for dip pens, brushwork, and all fountain pens that can be easily disassembled for cleaning. For the best experience, pair it with a medium or broad nib that can truly bring out its shimmer and sheen. As this is a high saturation ink with particulate matter, we recommend gently turning the bottle to distribute the particles before use, as shaking can incorporate air bubbles that may clog the pen feed. Regular maintenance, including frequent flushing, is recommended when using this ink.
